Professional Biography

Iman Hassan joined DU in January 2024 and currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of the Master of Arts in Sport and Performance Psychology (MASPP) program in the Graduate School of Professional Psychology at the University of Denver. Originally from Toronto, Canada, she earned her PhD and master’s degree in Sport Psychology from the University of Ottawa. She also holds a B.S. in Psychology from Delaware State University, where she competed as a member of the lacrosse team.

Iman is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) who works with collegiate and professional athletes to enhance mental resilience, optimize performance under pressure, and support well-being. Her teaching, research, and applied practice are grounded in a holistic view of sport psychology that emphasizes identity development, purpose, and long-term well-being alongside performance excellence. Through her work with athletes, coaches, and students, Iman focuses on helping individuals thrive in high-performance environments while cultivating skills and perspectives that support human flourishing across the lifespan.

She is a professional member of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA) and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). She has made contributions to the sport psychology literature, with her work focusing on athlete retirement transitions, wellness, coach education, and Para Sport, informing both academic scholarship and applied practice in sport settings.

At DU, Iman teaches courses that bridge theory and practice in sport psychology. In Team and Organizational Dynamics, she explores the psychological factors that drive team cohesion, leadership, and organizational culture, preparing students to foster high-performing sport environments. In Research Methods, she equips students with the skills to design, conduct, and interpret research studies, emphasizing evidence-based approaches in sport and performance psychology. In Human Growth and Development, she examines psychological development across the lifespan, with a focus on how growth, motivation, and identity influence athletic performance and well-being.

Through her teaching, research, and applied work, Iman strives to empower students and athletes alike, blending rigorous scientific understanding with real-world strategies to optimize performance, resilience, and lifelong success.
