Internship Consortium

The University of Denver GSPP Internship Consortium, an APA accredited program, consists of five sites in the Denver metropolitan area including a state psychiatric hospital, health maintenance organization, community mental health center, police psychology agency and one university counseling center.

Interns are at their sites Monday-Thursday, then meet together on Friday for a full day of training seminars which include professional issues, research, assessment, diversity/multiculturalism and an intern lunch.

Denver is quickly becoming one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the U.S. Census data show that the Denver population includes 11.1% Black or African American, 31.7% Hispanic or Latinx, 2.8% Asian and approximately 1% Native American residents. This diverse community encompasses the historic African American neighborhood of Five Points, Little Saigon on the west side, a thriving Latino and Mexican American community on the east side, and a vibrant LGBT neighborhood in Capital Hill. Situated in this energetic metropolitan community, the University is strongly committed to building a diverse and inclusive educational environment, which is in full accord with the value that DU places on inclusive excellence. The Internship Consortium is dedicated to diversity and inclusion. Our sites work with underserved communities and provide culturally competent care.  Several sites have access to interpreters and sign language specialists with others offering bilingual supervision. Interns participate in a year-long diversity seminar that focuses on increasing cultural competence through knowledge, skills and values/attitudes.

We are a partially-affiliated program, which means that some qualified DU GSPP students are given preference in the national match, but each year about half the cohort is from other accredited academic programs located throughout the U.S.

2024-2025 Internship Positions

The Consortium will accept 14 positions for 2024-2025. We anticipate the following:

Background checks and AAPI Professional Conduct

This internship consortium agrees to abide by the APPIC policy that no person at our training facilities will solicit, accept, or use any ranking-related information from any intern applicant.

Interns selected at the CMHIFL, Kaiser, WellPower, and DUHCC sites will be required to submit background checks prior to beginning training.  Please refer to the Internship Training Handbook for details.

In the Professional Conduct section of the AAPI, there is a question that asks if you have ever been convicted for anything other than a minor traffic violation. If this pertains to you due to your peaceful participation in recent protests related to Black Lives Matter, please know that the Consortium sites still welcome your application and will simply ask for a more detailed explanation of the incident.

  • The Consortium orientation will most likely be in person, and all Friday Seminars thereafter (schedule enclosed) with the third Friday of every month being virtual.
  • Supervisors at all sites are developing creative ways to ensure that some clinical activities and supervision can be offered remotely.
  • Given it's an inpatient site, CMHI-Fort Logan prefers in-person attendance to complete job tasks but will demonstrate flexibility in working with students to meet their needs
  • Kaiser Permanente Colorado will most likely be in person with some remote supervision (testing and supervision of supervision).
  • WellPower will most likely have a hybrid model with in-person onboarding, in-person assessment, and some remote psychotherapy and supervision.
  • University of Denver Health and Counseling Center requires interns on site Monday-Thursday as approximately 85% of our students request in-person services. During winter break and following graduation in June 2025, interns may have the option to work one day remote per week.
